Further details - With racing still at the forefront of designer Ivor Walklett’s mind, having finished the G16 he once again started thinking about another go at a single seater racing car.  This time he would keep his design quite conventional with a steel tube chassis, adjustable suspension and disc brakes all clothed in a light weight body.  The G17 was designed with the Formula 4 racing series in mind and was powered by an Imp engine and transaxle, the later turned upside down because the engine was in front of the axle.  First shown to the public on the Paul Emery Racing stand at the 1969 Racing Car Show sales never took off.  It is not known if any ever competed in a Formula 4 race but it is thought not.  However as a sprint and particularly hillclimb car the G17 has seem huge success.

The first customer Peter Voigt took many class wins in the national hillclimb championship but Scot Alex Brown trumped that when he took his car to an outright win in the 1973 Shell Leaders National Hillclimb Championship a major achievement.  Just three G17’s were built but the model also had a sister car the G18  (see G18)
