Further details - At the beginning of 1963 the first 1500cc Ford engine was fitted to a G4 chassis for a customer.  The performance in the ultra- light weight G4 was exceptional for the times and a decision was made to call cars with this engine the G5.  This option proved popular and from then on a high percentage of cars built were fitted with the 1500 engine in various states of tune.  However by September of that year confusion reigned with customers still calling the car a G4 and the decision was taken to drop the G5 title and from then on the model became the G4 1500 (see G4 Series 2)
