Further details - With the G21 1800 now ready for production it was time to look again at the 3-litre version and with fuel prices and manufacturing costs becoming ever greater due to high levels inflation it was decided not to pursue with this engine in the G21. Instead Ginetta opted to make a G21S which was launched at the 1973 London Motor Show.
The G21S featured the Holbay tuned 1725cc engine from the Sunbeam Rapier H120 and Hillman Hunter GLS models. This engine, with hotter cam, twin 40 DCOE Weber carbs and better exhaust, gave a significant power increase over the standard Rapier engine fitted to the G21 model. Whilst not as quick as the Ford 3-Litre V6 it was dubbed as the flagship Ginetta model and as such was supplied with overdrive as standard. Following launch around a third of the G21 cars built were ‘S’ versions.
