Further details - A move to a new factory at Sudbury in Suffolk in the spring of 1972 finally gave Ginetta the production space to make the G21 for the first time. However they were slow to put the model into production even then. They had re-engineered the G21 1600 for display at the 1971 Motor Show with an 1725cc Sunbeam Rapier engine and gearbox with the option of overdrive, together with a Rapier rear axle, a development they now Christened the G21 1800. But they continued to develop the car for production and later added Exacton Alloy wheels, heated rear window and ABS moulded dash board, door panels and other trim to bring the whole car to a very high standard for the time. The model now enjoyed flush external door handles to match the G15 although the electrically operated windows were dropped in favour of manual winders.
The car was a match for any production car from a major manufacturer and so a decision was taken not to market the car in component form, but instead hold it over until after the introduction of VAT in April 1973 and sell all cars factory built ready to be driven away. In fact the first G21 left the factory in July 1973 but production proper finally started in September 1973. The final car made was sold in late 1977 after a turbulent time for specialist car makers in an economy which produced massive head winds for sales, meaning the G21 never came close to meeting its full potential.
